State College of Florida Learning Library - 02/24/2018

On the morning of Thursday, February 22nd, a gathering of educators, government figures, students, college staff & administrators, and a host of others took place on the courtyard between the State College of Florida's art gallery and its new Learning Library. This was to be the culmination of two years construction time and twenty million dollars, some of which was provided by state funding and some from private grants and donations, our club having been one of those donors. Kids Need Kiwanis and Kiwanians need other Kiwanians. 

On the morning of Saturday, February 18th, several of our club members joined the Anna Maria Island Club for breakfast at the Beach Café located at the Manatee County Public Beach. While the meeting experience was quite different from that of our regular Tuesday luncheons in a number of ways, the common purpose of working toward making lives better for the children of our communities bound us all together.

The Island club membership is small compared to the Bradenton club, but what it lacks in membership, it makes up for it in spirit and comaradarie. This is a happy-go-lucky bunch with an abundance of energy and wit. And they...

Family Fun Day at Boys & Girls Club - 02/06/2018

On Saturday, January 20th the Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County hosted a Kiwanis Family Fun Day at their DeSoto Club location. Approximately 50 people attended the social, which included a variety of activities for all ages.  Besides the usual ping pong, pool and carpet ball games, members were treated to facepainting, Valentine's card making and cookie decorating, pizza, candy and an ice cream sundae bar.  The highlight of the evening was a relay race orchestrated by Coach Jeff from the Boys & Girls Club.  Members and kids had to jump through hula hoops, put a basketball into a bucket, stack large cups into a pyramid and toss bean bags into a target, then turn around...

Grant Award Recipients Recognized - 01/03/2018

Congratulations to all of the organizations that applied for and received grants from the Charitable Committee for special projects in 2017. Those recognized at our January 2nd luncheon were:

State College of Florida received $10,000 for a book collection, displays, activity and explorer stations along with a glass writing board for a Reading Room (YACR). The school was represented by Cassandra Holmes (Executive Director) and Barbara Bourgoin (Development Director).

Easter Seals of Southwest Florida received $23,260 to upgrade and extend its security system to new classrooms and existing high school classrooms. A special art piece was presented to Laurie Fox in absentia....

What a great day! Fifty-four club members hosted one hundred forty-six guests (the majority of whom were veterans) for a total of 200 participants gathered together to celebrate and thank those whose service and devotion to country have protected the freedoms that all of our citizens currently enjoy. A huge 'Thank you!' to all who were able to be present on Tuesday, November 7th, for our club's Patriots Day luncheon.

During it’s regularly scheduled luncheon on Tuesday, September 26th, Mrs. Angela Edwards and Mrs. Tompie Vita were recognized by the Bradenton Kiwanis Club with the prestigious George F. Hixson Fellowship. The award is named for the first Kiwanis International President and is a way of recognizing people who have contributed significantly to Kiwanis' history of generosity. Both ladies are strong advocates of children and community service and have given much of their time in these pursuits. Over the years, they have put others before themselves and have made sacrifices in many ways.

What does the 100th Florida District Convention look like? Several hundred of the most giving individuals in the state is what first comes to mind. From 26 districts they converged on the Naples Grande Beach Resort August 24-27 for training and to share how Kiwanians are making a difference in the lives of children at home and abroad. Those who are preparing to assume the roles of leadership within their individual clubs were present to learn how to best perform those functions. 2017 Christmas in August - 08/13/2017

Bradenton FL: August 5, 2017:  The Bradenton Kiwanis Club hosted its seventh annual Christmas in August at LECOM Park.  The event was by invitation only for 500 homeless children enrolled in Project Heart in the Manatee School District.  All the activities provided helped children get ready to go back to school on August 10 and to be successful learners.

Activities for the children included:  backpacks and school supplies, gift cards for clothes and shoes, haircuts, medical, vision and dental exams, food and fun for the children and families.  There were also activities for parents, like budgeting, finding a job, getting a reliable and affordable car, going back to school...

Bradenton Kiwanis Club member Bill Edwards warmly greeted the members of the Kiwanis Club of Tampa at the Tampa Club's 98th anniversary luncheon held on June 21st. Bill spoke about the Tampa Club chartering the Bradenton Kiwanis Club in 1922. He also updated the Tampa members on Bradenton projects and programs impacting the community. Bill presented the Tampa Club President, Amanda Malinowski,with several gifts including a Christmas in August tee shirt. Also attending were Bradenton Kiwanis Club members Diana Davis, Angie Edwards, Roland Emerton and Brenda Rogers.
