Kidnapped Gong Rescued! - 03/30/2018
news image

Thanks to twelve courageous BKC members, our gong was safely rescued from the clutches of the Manatee Sunrise Gang. It required them to travel north across the dangerous and turbulent waters of the Manatee River to D's Breakfast & Burgers in Palmetto (apparently the gang's regular hideout). Our club's retrieval team was forced to sit through a delicious breakfast while listening to a Boy Scout describe his Eagle Project (cleaning and restoration of headstones at Palmetto's Yellow Fever cemetery located at the intersection of 5th St. W. and 14th Ave. W.). Following the meal, fellowship and social interaction between members of both clubs ensued. It was torture, pure torture....

Club Gong Kidnapped! - 03/25/2018
news image

Attention all members! Be on the lookout for our club's meeting gong. It is approximately 1 foot tall, 3 pounds, and bronze in color. Last seen on the display table during the 95th Anniversary Celebration. Left unattended, it attracted the attention of a member of a visiting outside club member. While three clubs sent representatives: Anna Maria, Manatee Sunrise, and Siesta Key, a ransom post was left on our club's Facebook page indicating that an individual from Manatee Sunrise was the culprit. The kidnapper's only demand is that at least one member from Bradenton Kiwanis appear at one of their meetings as an Interclub guest. Who is willing to help?

Contact Heather Doyle, Brett...

news image

At last count, 110 participants comprised of members, significant others, and guests from other clubs came together to celebrate 95 years of the Bradenton Kiwanis Club and its impact on Manatee County. Brett Pollock got things started on behalf of Heather Doyle who was unable to attend. A few announcements and recognition of the event committee: Laurie Fox, Ray and Jan Schaberg, Judge Gilbert Smith, Dave Grantham and myself were made with Laurie providing beautiful gift baskets to each of her co-workers. Thanks, Laurie! Judge Ed Nicholas bestowed a blessing on the food, then shortly thereafter, made a toast utilizing his signature beverage the Fireball. What would a Bradenton Kiwanis...

The Adventures of Charlie Pierce - 03/01/2018
news image

Imagine that you are an eight year old boy growing up in south Florida in the late 1800's. You are one of a handful of white settlers living near the coast of what would one day become one of the most heavily populated areas of the state, but for now, it is a jungle... literally and figuratively. The only other kid your age is a Miccosukee Indian. The two of you have become best friends while the elders on both sides are still trying to figure out how (and if) to get along. There is work to be done. There are adventures to be had. And there is history to be made. How will it all turn out?

Mr. Harvey Oyer was the guest speaker at our February 26 luncheon and the relating of the story behind...

Fun Interclub Meeting on the Island - 02/18/2018
news image

Kids Need Kiwanis and Kiwanians need other Kiwanians.

On the morning of Saturday, February 18th, several of our club members joined the Anna Maria Island Club for breakfast at the Beach Café located at the Manatee County Public Beach. While the meeting experience was quite different from that of our regular Tuesday luncheons in a number of ways, the common purpose of working toward making lives better for the children of our communities bound us all together.

The Island club membership is small compared to the Bradenton club, but what it lacks in membership, it makes up for it in spirit and comaradarie. This is a happy-go-lucky bunch with an abundance of energy and wit. And they...
